What a mess!
As my last post explained, today I woke up around 5AM after about an hour's sleep and I decided to just get up. Maybe it was the anticipation of "Trash and Treasure Day" and the hundreds of yard sales and flea markets that awaited us. Maybe it was just a brand new jag. Whatever the cause, I enjoyed a wonderful morning out on the porch. At first I basked in the morning sun with temps in the 60's and warm sunshine. Then I got more productive and got busy with my garden. I trimmed everyone up and then watered and fertilized everyone (my plants and flowers are personal to me and I call them my children LOL) Here are the after shots:
Just beautiful! (thanks lawnmower men!)
Tracy got up later and fixed me breakfast (he does every day because we have discovered he is THE best breakfast maker in our family of two) Here was today's fare of maple bacon and pancakes:
Delicious! You can't tell from the picture but we are STILL eating on TV trays. That becomes important later in the day :)
So after breakfast, I returned to my quilling and did something really clever--I read the instruction books for quilling designs and discovered why my quills did not look exactly like the ones in the book! What a concept, huh? So I started over on my second quilling project and completed it in a couple of hours. I am satisfied with it now and Tracy says it is beautiful, even better than the one in the book. I don't know about that but can't wait to mail it off to its recipient! No pics of it because it is a surprise :)
Then we were off to "Trash and Treasure" and it was awesome! We rode the bike and traffic in to town was heavy. The town itself was just full of yard sales and flea markets. True to its name, some was trash (like the dude trying to sell cheap looking lapel pins as Russian military medals because they had pictures of Lenin and Stalin on them) but I brought home some treasures! Here we are arriving in Cross Plains:
There were dozens of yard sales on the way in to town and the signs promised hundreds more! Exciting! We parked the bike (across from a branch of our bank which really worked out for me later) and off we went. The first sections of tents and sales were pretty blah. Clothes, shoes, knick knacks, tons of true yard sales junk. I was kinda disappointed and wondered if this was a waste of time. But compared to the past weeks of weather it was pretty pleasant outside with a breeze and plenty of sunshine so I moved on across the street and visited dozens of setups before I came to my first "must have."
Ta Da! My first purchase for $4!
This sconce totally caught my eye and when I saw the price I was sold! I love the metal working and the fact that it is flat on top and could be used to display something...like the object d'art I bought yesterday!
I love it!!
We moved on and the next exciting thing I saw was a huge display of yard art! Too cool AND too expensive but I took some pics because they are just too cute:
LOL!!!! Only in Tennessee? Probably not!
Longhorns, peacocks, rabbits, goats and pigs!
My favorite: the armadillo! Isn't he CUTE???
Here are the historic Corner House Antiques and Thomas Drugstore I told you about yesterday:
VERY historic, wouldn't you say?
Then we mosied on. By this time I was getting very hot and was nearing the end of my patience of looking through the trash for the treasure. But one more stop at the local barber shop's sale and two green chairs caught my eye. They were sturdy and the price was right at $5 a piece. Keep in mind we are still eating on TV trays after over a year of marriage and remember my frustration with quilling in my living room chair! So somewhere in the back of my mind I was looking for a kitchen table and chairs and here was half of the package at a very decent price. Hmmmm now I need a table. So I look around and see a cool old ceramic topped table with a pullout shelf but it is loaded with yard sale items. So I figure it probably is not for sale. Wrong! I asked the lady about it and she said she would sell it for $80. Too much! So I ask what would you sell the table AND those two green chairs to me for? $60 says she and we are now the proud owners of a kitchen table and two chairs! Hooray!
Simple pleasures are THE best!!
So after we unloaded the table and chairs, it was time for supper and here is our first meal on our first kitchen table and it was superb! Maybe it was the homegrown food we prepared, maybe it was the new kitchen table and chairs or maybe it was simply the fact that God is so good and we felt so blessed beyond belief or ALL the above!
Delightful!
